Games Workshop links up with US

26 February 2008 Games Workshop has reached a deal to sell and licence some of its fantasy war games to an American company.

The Lenton-based business has sold the rights to a card game to Fantasy Flight for 250,000 and done a deal for the company to become exclusive publisher of board games, card games and role-playing games relating to Warhammer Fantasy battles and Warhammer 40,000.

Though Games Workshop will get 250,000 in cash for the card game deal, it will take a restructuring charge of £900,000 for the loss of the 'goodwill' value of the game.

Mark Wells, chief executive of Games Workshop, said: "These agreements will enable Games Workshop to focus further upon its core activities of design, manufacture and distribution of tabletop wargames."
